Aims & Requirements:
The course is the basic disciplinary course for all students for the master degree. It is necessary for the students who want to learn Optical thin films. The main objects are the students whose majors are optical engineering, also the students whose major are not optical engineering can choose it. Through the course students can get the basic training and general knowledge in optical thin films. The content contains the basic calculation of optical thin films, application and design of dielectric thin films, the preparation of optical thin films, analyze and measurement of optical thin films, and so on.

Chapter 1: basic calculation of optical thin films
Reflectance of single layer boundary; reflectance and transmittance of multilayer boundary; optical properties of metal coatings.
Chapter 2: application and design of dielectric thin films
Antireflection films; high reflective coatings; Neutral beam splitter; edge filter; Band-Pass Filters.
Chapter 3: preparation of optical thin films
Optical vacuum coating machine; Vacuum acquisition and testing; physical vapor deposition; magnetron sputtering; chemical vapor deposition.
Chapter 4: analyze and measurement of optical thin films
Film thickness measurement; measurement of reflectance and transmittance; measurement of Laser Induced Damage Threshold.
